My wife and I are building a new home and I decided to sell most of my coins. Almost 300 Capped Bust Half Dollars, total of 307 coins. It was a painful decision that I had made. I have bought and sold coins from the various online auction houses and decided I might get the most amount of money via Great Collections.

I contacted Ian Russel directly and explained that I needed to maximize the sales dollars as that was most important. Ian broke the collection into smaller offering typically 30 per week with a feature coin always offered first.

I have to say the results have not disappointed me, I am extremely pleased with the results.

I have purchased many coin from Great Collections and quickly learned RTFM, or in this case the rules- RTFR!. EVERYTHING is laid out, especially import is what you, the buyer, is responsible for. As to selling, I am coming around to that time. I have collected for over 60 years (currently it is 2024) I have talked to a number of people, including Ian, at GC about selling my collection when I pass since nobody in my family cares about coins. One thing that was pointed out, that if I submitted low value coins I may actually lose money. The selling fee seems high per coin, but that includes discounted grading and encapsulation. If you decide to get your coins graded from home, NGC and PCGS make you purchase a yearly membership. Then there is the grading fee, around $30. You must send it tracked and insured, they will be returned the same way with a $12-14 handling/packaging fee. Even if you send in 10 coins at once, you'll still pay north of $35-40 per coin. Oh, add $30 for each variety or error coin. Look at coins that you will be up against. The vast majority are high dollar/ high grade examples. Remember, the seller has to pay a percentage with a minimum of $5 per each coin they win, plus postage. You need to learn at least a little about coins you want to sell. Don't pull some pie in the sky value. Basically, most coins are worthless if they are cleaned or damaged. Great Collection will give you all the fees up front. They cannot take responsibility if you didn't read the terms and especially if submit coins that will garner little or no interest. Your ignorance of the process is nobody's fault but your own, if you feel you "have been taken."

Not the place to sell your coins as a Seller! Will Never send my Coins and do business with them again. They sold my coins for netting average of $3 per coin when I could had sold them myself for more than $3. Maybe buyers if any, but I think they buy the coin internally so My Lost! Which was hundreds of dollars possibly even thousands of dollars with my unique coins. Anyone how to file a legal complaint without incurring high legal fees?
